At Seniors Helping Seniors® Gateway Region, we have a passion for meeting the needs of seniors in a way that provides both dignity and a sense of camaraderie. Our owner(s) Susan Sullivan and Melissa Walsh firmly believe we can do that through serving seniors in our community, which includes: Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Afton, and surrounding areas.
Melissa Walsh and Susan Murray, owners and operators of Seniors Helping Seniors in-home services throughout Saint Louis have been friends for many years. They have joined forces to help those who are aging in their own community. By matching seniors who want to help with seniors who need help, Susan and Melissa are forging lasting relationships helping seniors live independently in their home with the dignity they deserve. “Senior caregivers relate to our seniors who need help by responding to their needs with great insight and understanding,” said Susan Murray. By creating an environment for active seniors to get involved in helping seniors in need, everyone benefits. Together the seniors who give services and those who receive them share their life experiences with one another relating in a way that a younger caregiver may not be able to. “That is why Seniors Helping Seniors in-home services is truly a unique and special approach to senior care,” said Susan.
Both Susan and Melissa feel the passion to give. Melissa’s mother and sister run assisted living homes for the mentally challenged. Following in their footsteps, by providing much needed care for members of her community, Melissa has always known that working with people in need was in her blood. “My mom and sister go above and beyond to make sure their clients feel loved and cared for. This is exactly what we do at Seniors Helping Seniors in-home services. This is a passion for my family. Every client is an extension of our family,” said Melissa. Melissa also knows personally how important home care services can be for seniors, through her and her husband’s experience caring for his ailing mother. “Being able to give my mother-in-law the opportunity to stay in her home during her final days was so important to her and to us. It made all the difference in the world,” said Melissa.
There are many services the senior providers who work with Susan and Melissa offer. Among them are light housekeeping, personal care, local transportation, overnight care, yard work, maintenance work, non-medical requests seniors who need help may have, and most importantly companionship. Melissa, a Southern California native has lived in Saint Louis for the past 15 years with her husband Tim. They have been married for 28 years and have 3 grown children. She has a fitness background and has worked in a management capacity for several fitness locations. When not working, Melissa did the important job as a stay at home mom. Susan is also originally from Southern California and has lived in many different parts of the country. She and her family moved to Saint Louis 7 years ago. Susan and her husband of 19 years, John, have 2 teenage children. Her background is also in management and she has been a stay home mom for the past several years.
Both Melissa and Susan are very involved in the community and local volunteer opportunities. They have both chaired several boards and are extremely involved in leadership volunteer positions with their churches, schools and other organizations. Melissa has been involved with the Epworth Children’s Center, a home for troubled children and teens. She has been part of the Friends of Epworth for the past several years. Susan is very involved as a volunteer at her children's school, as well as being an active board member with AIM High, a tuition-free academic enrichment program for middle school students from low-income neighborhoods.
