At Seniors Helping Seniors® West St. Louis County, we have a passion for meeting the needs of seniors in a way that provides both dignity and a sense of camaraderie. Our owner, Sherri Juergensen firmly believes we can do that through serving seniors in our community, which includes: Chesterfield, Town and Country, Ballwin, and surrounding areas.
Sherri Juergensen had a special experience which gave her a true understanding of being a senior care provider. When her mother was diagnosed with cancer, she was suddenly in charge of making sure both her parents’ needs were met. “Supporting my parents during that time was invaluable for all of us. The experience provided me with deep insight into what families need when dealing with an illness. It has inspired me to be a source of support for other families who may be going through the same thing,” she said.
Sherri began Seniors Helping Seniors home care to give seniors throughout West County of St. Louis the assistance they needed. Her goal was to allow seniors to have the independent lifestyle they desire and to live in their current houses for as long as they like. Seniors Helping Seniors home care matches seniors in need of assistance with compassionate, active senior companions who wish to help. This peer-to-peer assistance provides special support to seniors. They are gaining assistance from someone going through the same parts of life who can empathize with the aging process. Furthermore, our senior care providers often form bonds with their matches, which is beneficial to both of them.
Sherri understands the variety of ways to aid and support seniors, including working with their families. Caregivers feel less guilty about letting someone else help their parent or loved one because they understand that Seniors Helping Seniors offers companionship and support. In the end, our seniors look forward to giving or receiving help. “Seniors on both sides of the equation benefit,” she said. “Who better to serve a senior than another senior?”
Sherri is a St. Louis native and has lived there most of her life. For 13 years, she worked for the American Cancer Society, where she was able to serve many different cancer patients and their families. “Taking care of the details is hard when trying to be there for a loved one who is ill,” she said. “With the American Cancer Society I helped families navigate those details, from finding financial assistance to providing rides to treatments or locating support programs.”
“My personal experience with my mother’s cancer diagnosis and the years of working with cancer patients inspired me to want to support other families living with challenging health issues and caring for their loved ones. Through the services of Seniors Helping Seniors home care, I can help with the day to day tasks that take away from families’ quality time together,” Sherri explained.
Sherri has certifications in training others in "Matter of Balance", fall prevention through OASIS and MEAAA, "Building Creative Caregivers", a Care Basics training for people caring for clients with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, through the Alzheimer's Association and "Chronic Disease Self-Management" through Stanford University. She is also an active member of the West County Senior Advisory Group, a senior resource group committed to serving residents of West St. Louis County.
Aside from senior care, Sherri also gives back in other ways. She and her husband Doug volunteer with Camp Rainbow - a place where children with cancer can enjoy a weekend getaway with their families. They also participate in many walks to support friends and organizations like The Lung Cancer Connection, The American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, and The Scleroderma Foundation.
